AN UNFORGETTABLE AUSTRALIAN GP

18.12.05 - Phillip Island - "It's very good to be an Italian on the other side of the world". These words are the synthesis of the setting of the 2005 Polini Australian GP. Competitive spirit, duels, final sprints, Daniel Pedrosa (Honda) World Champion with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha MotoGP). There were many episodes that characterized this event. Valid as 15th trial of the Road World Championship, the Polini Australia GPhas been the occasion for the Company of Bergamo to underline its sporting vocation as main partner of an event particularly "felt" by the Australian public (88,921 total spectators).

Thomas Luthi (Honda) was the protagonist in the 125cc class. He now leads the 125cc World Championship by some points after sealing his first victory in the Australian Grand Prix, making the final part of this Championship even more exciting. Thanks to this victory, Luthi increases his advantage on the Finish rider Mika Kallio (KTM). Spanish Daniel Pedrosa (Honda), won the race after a spectacular final sprint with Sebastian Porto (Aprilia), to clinch the title in this class.

Pedrosa won his third title, after the 125cc title in the 2003 and in 2004 the 250cc class. The Australian Casy Stoner (Aprilia), after leading the race for some laps, fell without injury.

In the Moto GP class, Valentino Rossi closed the season in the best way possible; he gained his 11th victory of his extraordinary season; adding a pearl to his extraordinary curriculum. This is his 79th victory in his career. Second Nicky Hayden (Honda). Thrilling fight for third place was between Carlos Checa (Ducati) and Marco Melandr i (Honda) with Checa eventually taking third after a breathtaking final few yards.
