Here is a short section answering your most commonly asked questions. If you have any specific queries you can email us at the address given on our contact link at the top of the page.
Q. Can I buy Polini Minimoto and Mincross parts from you?
A. Yes. We are the UK importers for Polini. We retail to the general public
and we also supply to trade. We deal with CityLink and can have parts shipped
to you Next Day Delivery. We are also importers of Record race suits and
the supplier for Diadora minimoto race boots and back protectors.
Q. What is the difference between a Midi and a Minimoto?
A. A Minimoto is the smaller of the two with the Midi being 10% bigger.
The Polini range conforms to the Italian Minibikes rules, FMI, for mini
and midimotos.
Q. Who can ride minimotos?
A. Anyone from the age of 6 to 60. It all depends on the individuals flexibilit.
We have had 6' 6" 16 stone adults on these so I guess all heights and
weights are not so much of a problem.
Q. Are minimotos expensive?
A. They cost from £750 to £2000+ depending on what specification
of bike you want. These range from 4.2hp 910 minimotos to the 14hp GP3 Reverse.
Please do not confuse these with the 3.4hp models produced by other manufacturers.
Q. How fast are they?
A. Depending on gearing and engine horsepower this can vary. A base 4.2hp
with short gearing will do about 40mph where a 50cc water-cooled race tuned
engine with long gearing will do 62mph tops. The thing to remember is the
shorter the gearing the faster the acceleration resulting in less top speed.
The lower the gearing the the lower the acceleration giving more top speed.
Any figures above 60 odd miles per hour are wildly exaggerated.
Q. What is the difference between the 40cc 4.2hp, 6.2hp and 12hp engine?
A. The 4.2hp engine is the series 1 air-cooled engine.
The 6,2hp is the series 2 crankcases with the same air-cooled 3-transfer
barrel. This can also come with the water-cooled 3-transfer barrel.
The 12hp is the series 2 crankcases with a stuffed race crank and the new
5-transfer barrel. There is also a 12hp 50cc barrel that fits into the series
2 engine and gives lots of grunt.
Q. Are Minimotos street legal?
A. No. They are designed to be used on the track.
Q. What is te best spark plug to use?
A. The CHampion n2c is the standard plug for a 4.2 and 6.2hp engine. We
find this plug is too cold for the UK and run Nippon densos w24 range E
for long reach and F for short reach.
Q. Is there any warranty?
A. Polini say that they are race machines, so no warranty. If you have any
problems from start up, McIntosh Minimoto operates a goodwill policy to
fix your problems with minimum fuss to you.
Q. Where can we try minimotos?
A. There are lots of places across the UK. Email us for your nearest or
check out our Events Calendar.
Q. Do you deal with any other Minimoto manufacturers?
A. No. We have in the past but we have won more Championships with Polini.
We can also guarantee that we keep 95% of all Polini minimoto parts in stock.
We are now the major supplier of Polini parts to maximum Attitude, Double
M Racing, Minimoto Racing, Lucky Devils and Minimot Northern Ireland to
name but a few.
Q. What is the 2-stroke oil mixture?
A. It is 2%, which is 100ml of good quality 2 stroke oil to 5 litres of
fuel, 95 octane or higher.
Q. What are the service intervals and are they expensive to maintain?
A. Minimotos are not like big bikes as they have no wet sump and no speedo
to register the mileage so there are no service intervals. It is more like
a bicycle to maintain, with regular checks of the chain and the cable operated
brakes. The only addition to this is the clutch, that can take a little
more looking after. Cost wise they are not too expensive to repair with
an engine rebuild after a season being about £50.
